Political Religion

When you see religious leaders endorsing political candidates then you know “tumecheswa” (we are being played).

I believe God gives and takes away authority from leaders. We see this evident in Romans 13:1 (GNT Version) “Everyone must obey state authorities, because no authority exists without God’s permission, and the existing authorities have been put there by God.”

This we also see with Saul in the bible, who was the first King anointed by Samuel to lead the people of Israel. After some years, a boy is anointed and who later becomes King over Israel; David is his name.

I do not advocate for men of God endorsing a particular candidate especially if they are just following their own desires. In the bible, we see that the prophets would hear from God, then anoint a leader; nowadays men of the clothe (this is across the divide; Muslim and Christian) are approached by a candidate interested in a political seat. The next thing you have is a ‘chosen’ leader paraded, yes I said it, before the people or a hungry press (everything newsworthy is consumed by the media and fed to us) as the choice.

The fact that some people have become reliant on what their religious leaders is saying, means we are not even hearing what the Lord is saying on our own. We believe that God cannot speak to us and has to speak to the religious/spiritual leader only! It is very dangerous for men of the clothe to just parade a candidate before the people. I have read and watched as leaders lose in elections, even after religious leaders had endorsed the said candidate as the one whom God has chosen.

Does God lie? Does God change His mind?

No and No to both questions. The book of Numbers 23:19, we read in New King James Version (NKJV) that:

“God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Whatever God speaks will come to pass. No word of His returns void as we see in Isaiah 55:11 King James Version (KJV), So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

What am I saying friends? You shall know them by their fruits, anyone who gives a prophecy and says its from the Lord and it doesn’t come to pass is all but listening to His own voice or worse still the voice of the people or even worser still that of the devil.

The latter doesn’t apply to all, am just saying a man of the clothe should be a man who listens to what the Lord God says and is able to convey the SAME message, RAW to the intended audience.

  1. I cry out for leaders who will learn to ask God for direction.
  2. I cry out for leaders who will learn to listen to the voice of God before making any move that will cost the whole nation or the people they are leading.
  3. I pray that more and more religious leaders will say NO to politicians money and other corporate money that makes them endorse their candidature.
  4. I hope and pray that a time is coming when the people will learn to ask God for direction on which leader is in right standing with Him; which leader is right for them
  5. I pray that we will be leaders of integrity, whether business leaders, political leaders, religious leaders or even at home with our family.

Dear Lord, thank you that leaders are anointed by you. I pray for forgiveness in how I have failed to pray for the leaders. I ask you right now to guide me in my prayer for them and that you will also guide our leaders to be in right standing with you. I pray that we may not deem them as perfect but to view them as you do.

Lord I pray this in the most holy name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, AMEN
