Psalm 91

Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God

1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler 3 And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, 4 And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, 5 Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, 6 Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, 7 And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, 8 And see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,
9 Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, 10 Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, 11 To keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, 12 Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, 13 The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; 14 I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; 15 I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, 16 And show him My salvation.”

I love listening to the testimonies of people since it’s through such stories that I get to experience God in a whole new level! The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. As Reinhard Bonnke puts it in his book on “Faith: Link to God’s power”, the God who was (in the bible) and who is (now)!

Jesus Christ's loving embrace

From one of these testimonies I have learnt of God’s amazing power of protection. Jehovah Sabaoth(The Lord of hosts, our protector) who came through for a lady in my circle of friends. We all heard of the unfortunate and shocking experiences that happened to the victims of the Westgate.

Well, a friend of a friend was with her daughter during the initial stages of the siege as the terrorists were shooting at shoppers. It so happens that they were hiding at a corner, in a squatting position. All this while she kept praying for their safety and kept declaring the scripture found in Psalms 91. As she kept reciting the verses, the Christians around her kept saying amen after each verse. Others were too afraid and kept urging her to remain silent; nevertheless she continued up to the end.

Then one of the terrorists picked them out and started shooting at them. God is a God of wonders, everyone around them either got shot dead or injured but the lady and her daughter were among those who were rescued (first batch to leave Westgate). I believe God came through for her and these words were fulfilled… 2 My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler. And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,…”

I know that I can rely on the safe pair of hands, that belong to Jesus Christ – Jehovah is His name. He holds the universe and all that is in it, at His mercies.
